The body’s control center, the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves), is equipped with specialized receptor cells. These cells are designed to communicate neural information throughout the body in response to stimuli. When stimulated, these receptor cells produce a stream of nerve impulses that travel from a particular area in the body to the brain. After this information is processed, the brain responds by sending command impulses that initiate the nervous system ability to self-correct structural imbalances in the body.

Dr. Patton Gibbs utilizes the ArthroStim® Instrument, which capitalizes on this neurological feedback system through rapid repetitive thrusts. The ArthroStim® is also equipped to physically restore joint motion, making it a highly effective alternative to manual high velocity thrusting. All forms of chiropractic manipulation, if delivered properly, are safe, gentle and specific. What makes the ArthroStim® an advantageous form of manipulation is it allows the practitioner to perform chiropractic adjustments without having to torque or twist the patient’s body–the patient simply lies flat and still. Plus, the spring cushioned, recoiling, thrusting action of the ArthroStim® enables the practitioner to activate mechanoreceptors more selectively without recruiting pain receptors. The instrument can produce up to 12-14 recoiling thrust per second, at forces ranging from mere ounces to more than 40 pounds, while covering the distance of 0.1 mm to 5 mm. The human hand cannot reproduce these ranges.

While the ArthroStim® has had much success over the past 20 years, Dr. Patton Gibbs may elect to use other forms of manual adjustments if warranted by patient preference or an insufficient response to the initial treatment plan.
